EKIDEN volunteers from Châteauroux

Wishing to remobilize his volunteers, Patrice SOUDY, president of the EKIDEN of Châteauroux, used “les Amis de La Martinerie” premises to host his back-to-school meeting.

This meeting took place on Tuesday, September 6.

Starting at 5:00 PM, EKIDEN volunteers were welcomed by volunteers from “les Amis de La Martinerie” for a quick tour of the exhibition halls of “la maison départementale de la mémoire militaire”

Nearly 80 volunteers responded to their president’s call.

A nice gathering and a nice meeting between volunteers.

Thanks to Marie-Claude, Antoine, Christian, Daniel, Gabriel, Jean-Jacques, Jean-Pierre and Stéphane, for their efforts before and after the meeting.

What is EKIDEN?

Born in Japan, the Ekiden is a marathon relay (42.195 km) involving 6 runners. The distances are fixed and are carried out by 6 different runners in the following order: 5 km, 10 km, 5 km, 10 km, 5 km, 7.195 km.

The Ekiden 36 is organized by the “Association des Foulées de Châteauroux”, an association founded in 1993 to organize the 10K and 20K races of Châteauroux. In 2008, change of objective, the 10 and 20 km races are transformed into Ekiden. More user-friendly, the format appeals to both beginners and seasoned runners. The Ekiden 36 is, today, one of the most important Ekiden in France in terms of participation (Records at 395 teams).

The Ekiden 36 relies on 17 volunteers all year round and 120 additional volunteers are involved on the day of the event, either on the course and at the various service points.

300 teams are expected to join for the 14th edition scheduled for Sunday November 13, 2022.
